Our Believe in Students partnership

JGP is excited to announce a partnership with Believe in Students, a national nonprofit that supports college students with emergency aid funding and other resources to help them address the basic living expenses that may otherwise derail their educational path.

A recent study found that nearly 3 in 5 of the students surveyed faced food insecurity, struggles with housing and homelessness, lack of child care, or other basic living expenses often not sufficiently covered by financial aid. Research has indicated that by providing "small" grants (less than $600), these needs and the stress and anxiety that come with them can be alleviated, helping students to stay on track for degree completion.

With our commitment, we expect to help 1-3 students per month (and growing!) past these critical hurdles, allowing them to continue on toward a degree. Initially, our funding will support students at Green River College (King County, WA), Harold Washington College (Chicago, IL) and Wilbur Wright College (Chicago, IL), with the opportunity to add additional schools in the coming years.

In trying to engage more deeply on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, it can be really hard to figure out where to start. For us, this felt like a meaningful approach and it feels like a great fit for a firm in the education sector. It's a small start, but it will grow with any success we experience. We Believe in Students.

More about Believe in Students:

Believe in Students is the nation’s only non-profit organization focused exclusively on supporting college students’ living expenses. They develop and support innovative, sustainable, and effective solutions that can scale to meet the widespread demands.

We were especially moved by the story of Bria Burris , one of the students supported by Believe in Students during the pandemic. If you’d like to join us in supporting students like Bria, you can do so here.
